The Shire’s Must-See Christmas Light Displays

Twenty five years later I still remember visiting the Christmas light displays at Bonnet Bay with my family each year. Over the years it became my favourite Christmas tradition.
Now that I am a mum, there’s nothing more heartwarming than watching my children’s eyes light up when they see an amazing display of Christmas lights in the Sutherland Shire.
As the years have gone on, more and more Shire families are putting on a fabulous Christmas lights display for all to enjoy.
Here at Mums of the Shire, we have put together the ultimate must-see streets. So make sure you visit these absolutely spectacular local displays!
They are usually lit up from about 7.30pm, even though it is still light at that time the little ones don’t mind, they still get so much enjoyment out of it. If you want to wait until the true magic emerges then head out when it’s dark at about 8.30pm when the full effect can be seen against the dark night sky.

Must-see houses

10 Brooke Street, Engadine (The winner!)

These guys have gone all out. They have a magical garden to explore, a photo area, lucky dips and a raffle. They also have lots of special visitors including Santa, the Rural Fire Brigade and Sarah Walsh the Paralympian. Several elves are working each night taking kids on a mission to find Dingles The Elf, then into the photo area equip with props to find out their elf name and they finish off exploring Santa’s workshop..

131 Ridge Road, Engadine

The Morris family at 131 Ridge Road in Engadine has been building up this display for 16 years. They will be collecting donations for The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. This is one not to miss!!

Must-see Streets

Allambie Avenue, Caringbah South

Allambie Avenue, often referred to as Candy Cane Lane,  is a well known favourite and a Christmas eve hot-spot. Just about every house is lit up, there is a real buzz in the street and a lovely sense of community. On Christmas Eve they block off the street for Santa’s arrival and there is even a kids playground!

Tea Tree Avenue, Kirrawee

This street was lit up to perfection! It is one of those streets where it is worth jumping out of the car and taking a walk around the cul-de-sac. Pretty much every house in the street puts on a great display. Definitely worth a look.

Orana Avenue, Kirrawee

There are a few good displays here. It’s worth stopping by if you are in the area. We usually head here first before we make our way to Tea Tree Place.

Lantana Road, Engadine

They are lots of beautiful displays in Lantana Road. This one was a favourite.

Gamenya Road, Engadine

Just about every house in this street is lit up. This is a must see, amazing street. You can feel the Christmas spirit and cheer.

Other streets worth a look

Dalrymple Place, Barden Ridge
Washington Drive, Bonnet Bay
Burraneer Bay Road, Burraneer
Kingswood Road, Engadine
David Road, Lucas Heights
Carter Road, Menai

Must-see Suburb – Kurnell!

Well done to Kurnell. Not one street we went down disappointed! The top pic for us was this one on Prince Charles Parade. The have wrapped lights all the way to the top of a massive tree in their front yard, there is a light show and a countdown timer.
