How do the Assessments work?

The Child Assessment Clinic's comprehensive assessments involve clinical interviews with parents, gathering information from school/daycare and involved therapists. The assessments also include standardised psychometric tests with the child or young person. Our clinicians are skilled in the administration of a range of measures including:

  • Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2)
  • Monteiro Interview Guidelines for Diagnosing the Autism Spectrum, Second Edition (MIGDAS-2)
  • Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence (WPPSI-IV)
  • Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-V)
  • Wechsler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT-III)
  • Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-IV)
  • MOXO-continuous performance test
  • Griffiths Scales of Child Assessment (Griffiths 3)
  • Conners 4 and Conners Early Childhood
  • Adaptive Behaviour Assessment System (ABAS-3)
  • Vinelands Adaptive Behaviour Scales (Vinelands 3)
  • And more

The team are flexible in our approach to how assessments are conducted because we know that there is no 'one size fits all'. Generally the comprehensive assessments are completed over one appointment that can last for 4-6 hours.

From each assessment you receive a comprehensive report detailing assessment results, diagnosis (if applicable) and recommendations to support your child. The assessment includes comprehensive feedback with our clinicians where you have the opportunity to ask any questions. Our reports are often used to support applications for NDIS funding. Reports are delivered within a week of the assessment.
